6U Information
We’re so excited to have you join us! Here’s a quick look at what to expect for the season as well as what gear you’ll need.
Cost:
Association: FREE
USA lacrosse membership: $35
Required Gear:
Lacrosse stick
Colored mouthguard
Practices:
Twice a week, day & time to be decided. If you have a conflict, reach out because we may be able to avoid certain days. Usually, we practice 5:30-6:30.
Games:
After teams are registered with GNLL on March 1st, weekend games are decided. They’ll be either on a Saturday or Sunday and we usually play two games. 8U and up plays every weekend, 6U likely won’t. It will depend on what other teams decide to host games. If you can’t make it all games, that’s totally fine! They’re meant to be super fun and give the players a chance to learn how games work.
Stick Recommendations:
- “Stick length should be less than the distance from the ground to the player’s waist, not including the head.”
- Basically, you want the shaft of the stick to come to about your player’s waist, give or take a little.
- For most kids, a junior stick will work well. For tall kids, a standard stick may even work (and they’ll be able to use that stick for several years).
- Start by measuring from the floor to the top of your kid’s waist and get a stick with that length.
- Make sure to avoid “mini” sticks - the head of those sticks are smaller than standard sticks and won’t fit a standard lacrosse ball.
- Stick options we’ve found (but you can also find more options at used sports gear stores, on Facebook Marketplace, at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Scheels, etc.)
- Scheels link: Junior stick, shorter than a standard stick at 24.5”
- Amazon link: Has two length options: 19.5” or 28”
